Compliance with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's (EPA) January 21, 2016, Emergency Order is of critical importance to the State as it works with all levels of government to ensure the people of Flint have access to safe, clean drinking water.

The City of Flint purchases treated water from the Great Lakes Water Authority (GLWA) and the Genesee County Drain Commissioner (GCDC) and provides further treatment to optimize corrosion control.

• Data collected from the City's distribution system helps us know whether the treatment process is working correctly
• Some data in the table is informational only
• Some data shows whether target ranges for pH, orthophosphate, chlorine, and iron are being met.

Other testing that EGLE is doing for the City of Flint is Lead and Copper Sequential Sampling.

This expanded dataset helps the City of Flint make decisions about the best way to treat the water. If more than one sample is collected per day at a particular location, the average or range of all daily samples may be shown.

A building's plumbing system and water service line (pipes) can be made up of different types of materials. Each type of material can affect drinking water differently, so it is useful to conduct what is known as "sequential sampling". Sequential sampling is where all water usage in a building is stopped for several hours, known as "stagnation". Next, water is collected from the faucet in a series of bottles. This is done without wasting any water or running the water before filling the bottles. The first few bottles represent water that was in contact with the faucet or building plumbing during stagnation. The later bottles represent water that was in contact with the water service line. These sample results can help decide whether treatment is working.

The second quarter for PFAS MCL compliance monitoring ran from April 1 - June 30, 2021, and included two groups of supplies:

Those supplies whose initial round monitoring returned a PFAS detection(s) for one of the analytes with an MCLs, placing them onto a quarterly monitoring schedule.
A number of those supplies which have demonstrated through sampling PFAS levels consistently and reliably below the PFAS MCLs, who are on an annual monitoring schedule. (Who opted to collect their annual sample during Quarter 1)

The initial compliance monitoring period ran from the date of MCL promulgation (August 3, 2020) until February 3, 2021, and included two groups of supplies:

Those supplies which had collected a sample during EGLE's statewide PFAS survey and returned a PFAS result with a detection greater than half of one of the proposed MCLs AND those supplies which had not previously collected a PFAS sample during EGLE's statewide PFAS survey, would sample during the first full quarter following promulgation (October 1, 2020 - December 31, 2020).

All remaining supplies which had collected a sample during EGLE's statewide PFAS survey would sample during the first six months following promulgation (August 3, 2020 - February 3, 2021).

If a school is not listed, it may be serviced by municipal water. If you are not sure where a school gets its drinking water, contact a school administrator. If a school is on municipal water, EGLE tested all of Michigan's municipal supplies in 2018 as part of Phase I.
